Berlin: area by area – Tiergarten - Monument to Otto von Bismarck

The monument of Reich founder Fürst Otto von Bismarck stands rather hidden in Tiergarten at the corner of „Großer Stern“.
The parliament asked the German sculptor and painter Reinhold Begas to create a national monument of Bismarck for his services at the Reich founding and the first the Reich's chancellor.

Bismarck stands larger-than-life clothed in a tunic, he holds his right hand over the German Reich's deed of foundation, his left hand holds an epee. At his feet four allegoric groups - Atlas with the globe, Sybille on the back of a sphinx, a woman's figure conquers a tiger, Siegfried forges a sword.
