Berlin: The Gay Districts: Kreuzberg – Schwule Museum (Gay Museum)

Schwule Museum (Gay Museum) is the only one of its kind worldwide. Established in 1985 it gives detailed insights into the changeful history and present of gay living by its various exhibitions, collections and lectures.

You must visit it and see the Permanent Exhibition “Self-awareness and persistence — 200 years of Gay History”

The display occupies the entire first floor. An overview of gay history in Germany, with a special focus on Berlin, its covers nearly two centuries of social change with many highs and lows between 1800 and 1970.
The historic foundations of contemporary gay pride and self-understanding will be revealed by tracing the gradual process of European Enlightenment that enabled minorities or those who thought and acted differently, to define their own lives.

I must confess that I felt a little bit uncomfortable visiting it, I’m not sure about this feeling but it seems to me that the collection is shown in an abruptly way and it lacks hope.
