The stars of Brussels: Stoclet House - The Desire for Beauty
Brussels, Center for Fine Arts – BozarFebruary 17th – May 28th 2006
At the beginning of the twentieth century the Wiener Werkstätte fostered a noble objective: the group wanted to reconcile the fine and applied arts, to plunge art into daily life and to devote as much attention to simple objects as to works of art. Its figureheads Josef Hoffmann and Kolo Moser inspired a group of artists who excelled in various disciplines.
This exhibition provides a broad overview of the designs and corresponding solutions to social needs of that time. The Palais Stoclet in Brussels, a collective creation in the international Jugendstil, is still the finest example of total art defended by the Wiener Werkstätte and as such it is allocated a lead role in the exhibition.
Contemporary artist Heimo Zobernig has designed an eye-catching set for ‘The Desire for Beauty’ exhibition, which capitalizes on the architecture of the Center for Fine Arts. For more information visit BOZAR.
