4th LGLFF - WERNER SCHROETER

For me Werner Schroeter is “the German cinema's greatest marginal filmmaker.”
Beginning his filmmaking career in the 1960s, Schroeter has been an important and influential proponent of the New German Cinema, although his personal eccentricities and refusal to use conventional narrative tools in his films have rendered his work somewhat obscure and less marketable than some of his more famous contemporaries such as Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Werner Herzog and Volker Schlöndorff.
I can’t forget our first meeting (February 2000) at his hotel in Berlin; he was excited with the invitation to come to Lisbon and expressed his emotions shaking hands (fingers covered by huge rings) and feet as well as screaming in a funny way.
My favourite films are:
. Poussières d'amour - Abfallprodukte der Liebe (1996) aka Love's Debris
. Malina (1991)
. Rosenkönig, Der (1986) aka O Rei das Rosas (Portugal)
